Living in Fear by Becky Purvis, age 14
"My parents are always harassing me about my beliefs. I'm a Satanist and they think that I'm crazy and should be christian. They have gone through this same thing with my older sister who is now 18. They will go in my room and take what they think is satanic and tear it up. I had drawn a few symbols on a trunk of mine and they have even gone as far as spray painting my truck red. They say they do this because they don't want this kind of stuff in their house, but I wish they would except what I believe in instead of punishing me for what I am. They have said that being a Satanist and listing to Marilyn Manson has caused allot of my problem. But i want o finally stand up to my father and tell him I am what I am and if you don't like it im gone. I'm only 14 and i don't think i could stand 4 more years of this crap. I live in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. My crappy town is made up of most christians who are always buting me down daily at school. My town has to many closed mined fools who need to ecpt me and others for who we are, not what we believe in. Please help if you can.

I was also in the Scouts for a few
years, and our troop leader molested loads of kids over a 10 year
period. when i think back, I can remember certain kids who, on
camps, said they were homesick all the time, and that BASTARD
taking individuals off for walks in the woods... it was even
going on in the tents we were sleeping in- right next to me while
i was asleep. its freaky. anyway, when all of this shit came out
a couple of years ago, we were told that this guys church would
stand behind him and support him all the way and that God would
give him the strength to continue. I hate their double
standards...

Harassment in Boston on Oct.31st 1996
by Stephen
It was October 31, 1996. My friend, her
boyfriend and I decided to spend Samhain in Salem to see the
sites and see if there were any Pagans celebrating as well as the
rest of the people. then we got there all the stores were packed
as well as the Witch Museum and most of the restaurants except a
small ice cream shop/ bakery (which I forget the name exactly,
but serve excellent baked goods as well). It seemed more like a
large orgy of costumed people (we did not dress any different
than our everyday attire) roaming the streets playing games,
eating the foods resented by many merchants as well as Salem
T-shirts and other apparel. It was nice, though crowded. The
infamous Crow Haven Corner was packed and the line was all the
way down the street to get in so we kind of stayed away from it.
My friends had seen a sign stating that there was a convention of
"psychics" at the hotel in the town so we ventured over
there. My two friends had their cards read as I waited in the
vestibule (I would have gone in, but I didn't have any money to
do it). Anyway, I was hearing the people waiting having doubts
about the validity f Tarot, the Indian Medicine Cards, and
Palmistry. And just shut it out from my mind. My friends were
happy with their readings except for one thing. My friend's
boyfriend was not happy with the fact that when he asked about
him and my friend, nothing came up. (Needless to say they are not
together right now.). After that we walked outside and some
gentleman wearing a sandwich board with a picture of a cross over
a canyon with fire spewing from the canyon handed us a pamphlet
saying stuff like, "Jesus saves!" and "Save
Yourself in the Arms of God!" and stuff like that. I tossed
the pamphlet in the nearest trash receptacle I came upon. We went
to the center of town, where we saw yet another person wearing a
sandwich board with a crowd behind him all singing
"Christian Music" marching down the street. I watched
the rest of the crowd and all of them also were tossing the
pamphlets out as well. Some not in the receptacles, but on the
street and stomping on them. It was starting to get late and we
had a long drive ahead of us, so we headed back to the car. On
the way, we ran into the group of people we saw marching on the
common singing and trying to hand us pamphlet. They just wouldn't
give up! We ran away from the scene and got to the outskirts of
the common where our car was parked. We got in the car and we
found another pamphlet under our windshield wiper, which didn't
notice it until it started flapping on the windshield as we
started to drive away. We tried to get it off by turning the
wipers on, but it just wouldn't come off until we hit the
highway. We were talking about the trip to our friends, and
emphasized on the harsh site of these Christians screaming for us
to save ourselves and our souls. I think they see Halloween as an
evil holiday, yet they put it on there calendar and made it into
a commercialistic event like any other holiday (i.e. Christmas).
Kind of confusing, really. It's a day of remembering the dead.
They see it as a day where the Devil (you know, that deity we
don't believe in) and his demons come from hell for one night, I
guess. Or maybe where all the "hellspawn" creatures
including the Devil are present. I just don't see the connection
with remembrance of loved ones who have passed on from this
incarnation to the next and "evil" spirits reaping the
lands.

Pentagram Experience at McDonald's
by Kii Lockhorn
A few years ago, my brother was working at McDonald's, and one of his co-workers, Stevem was a born-again Christian. This guy would go on and on about how he "saved his soul" by leaving "the cult" (don't even ask me which "cult;" according to Steve, it was "THE cult"). Well, my brother liked to play with this guy, and asked one day if he could wear my pentacle to work to see what this guy's reaction would be. I conceded, and so my brother took the little silver pentacle that I had put on a black satin cord.
Well, Steve threw a fit. He stopped dead in his tracks when he saw my brother wearing this symbol and hesistantly asked where he got it. John replied, "My sister gave it to me. You like it?" knowing full well that Steve didn't like it one bit.
Steve responds, "No, I don't like it. Take it off! You're wearing a gateway to hell."
John laughed innocently (and boy, can he do that well). "Take it off? Why? My sister would never give me something that could hurt me."
"It's evil!" Steve screamed at him. "You'll burn in hell for wearing it."
It took all of my brother's control not to laugh in this guy's face, and ultimately, it took one of the managers to calm Steve down. The saddest part about this story however was that the manager then turned on John and told him to take the pentacle off. John told him, no way, no how, because it was a religious symbol, and state law forbid the manager to force him to remove it. The manager backed down a little bit, but asked him to at least wear it under his uniform. John asked, "Why? Steve wears crosses all the time, and no one ever says anything about that. This is just a religious symbol too, and you can't make me hide it or take it off, unless you make Steve and everyone else do the same thing."
So what happens? Rather than letting
everyone, pagan or not, wear symbols of their religion, the
manager decrees that no one can openly wear *any* religious
symbol at work, even crosses. While that wasn't exactly what my
brother intended, it did work to make the born again Steve stop
"preaching" on a daily basis, which is the main thing
that John was looking to do.
